The poetry of craft | the craft of poetry

Join us as April explores the kinship between basket-making and soulcraft, poetry and patience. April will read some of her poems, there will be prompts and generative writing, and then we will literally interlace our words together through a guided paper weave process. Our lively Q&A will focus on the relationship of different kinds of crafting to the act of writing. Together, we will explore how it is to create poetry through a multidisciplinary lens.

April Tierney is a poet, craftswoman, mother, and lover of stories. She is the author of four full length collections of poetry, including Matter/Mother (Wayfarer Books 2024). Her work has been nominated for The Pushcart Prize and featured in Orion MagazineDeep Times: A Journal of the Work that ReconnectsClarion Poetry Magazine, and Real Ground Journal, among others. April also guides nature-based writing circles for adults and kids as well as seasonal art making workshops. To learn more visit www.apriltierney.com.

"Poetry, like bread, is for everyone." -Roque Dalton

Bread & Poetry is for people interested in language, particularly poetry, as a doorway to something sacred inside themselves. Mixing experiential writing exercises with lively Q & A and a range of featured poets, Bread & Poetry serves up language that dissolves borders between self and Self; self and other. It is a way to hold space for a community of undefended hearts, each speaking a love language at once personal and universal. As the poet David Whyte says, “Poetry is language against which you have no defenses.”
