Boulder-based author extraordinaire Buzzy Jackson will join us for this month’s Bread & Poetry to talk about her lifelong love of poetry and how it has influenced her writing. Buzzy grew up in a bookstore that a lot of poets frequented, so she has some colorful tales to tell. She’ll also lead us in a generative writing exercise based on a few of her favorite short poems. Feel free to bring questions about publishing, book proposals, and writing projects of all stripes.

A little more about Buzzy:
Buzzy Jackson is the award-winning author of three nonfiction books and the novel, TO DIE BEAUTIFUL. Buzzy grew up in an extended family of writers in Truckee, California and Missoula, Montana and now lives in Boulder. She has a Ph.D. in History from UC Berkeley and is a member of the National Book Critics’ Circle, and poetry has always been a big part of her reading repertoire. Her next book is a historical novel about how the history of witch trials led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, to be published by Penguin Random House in 2027.

"Poetry, like bread, is for everyone." -Roque Dalton

Bread & Poetry is for people interested in language, particularly poetry, as a doorway to something sacred inside themselves. Mixing experiential writing exercises with lively Q & A and a range of featured poets, Bread & Poetry serves up language that dissolves borders between self and Self; self and other. It is a way to hold space for a community of undefended hearts, each speaking a love language at once personal and universal. As the poet David Whyte says, “Poetry is language against which you have no defenses.”
