Program Description

Event Details

The act of negotiating occurs in many aspects of a person’s personal and professional life.  This session will expose attendees to the characteristics of a successful negotiation.  From a human relations perspective, we will explore the skills necessary to articulate what you want with clarity, represent your own best interest, avoid self-sabotage, build alliances, and create the best environment for a successful outcome.  This program will examine how to be a stronger job candidate, a more educated consumer, and a more confident and resourceful participant in your own life challenges.

Joan Treece, a Lyons resident for 15 years,  is a consultant and trainer in the area of negotiation skills and self-advocacy.  Her experience includes labor contract negotiator, award-winning sales and customer service trainer, experienced car salesperson, and communication skills instructor.  As VP of Operations for a unionized manufacturing workforce in Boulder, Colorado, she served on the management negotiation team for 9 years.  "The experience of going through unionization was a million-dollar education, and the skills I learned had a profound effect on my professional managerial style and in my personal life.  I gained an expanded, more creative perspective, and most important, it gave me a roadmap for better communication and interpersonal problem-solving."
