Join Professor Emerita Manette Ansay for tips on creating original essays and building compelling applications. Manette has spent the last 30 years teaching and advising college students at Cornell, Vanderbilt, Marquette, and the University of Miami. She’s also a New York Times bestselling novelist. Q&A to follow the presentation. 9th-12th graders and their families welcome.
Manette Ansay is an emerita professor (Department of English, University of Miami) and a New York Times bestselling author with eight published books including Vinegar Hill, an Oprah Winfrey Book Club Selection, and Midnight Champagne, which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her academic experience includes graduate and undergraduate teaching, advising, and intensive one-on-one mentorship. She has worked on graduate admissions committees (15 years at UM) and undergraduate program admissions committees (5 years at Vanderbilt University). From 2017-2021, she mentored a FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Team, a 10 hour/week commitment which included connecting team members with leadership roles throughout the community, assisting them with organizing summer STEM enrichments, and coaching junior and seniors through the college application and essay writing process.
